Special Instructions and FAQs for Applicants to the Medical Council of Canada

Special Instructions

Physicians interested in applying for registration to the Medical Council of Canada (MCC) are required to create a Physiciansapply.ca account and send copies of their medical credentials to the MCC for review. Once the credentials are approved, they are sent directly to ECFMG by MCC to initiate the verification process. The Medical Council of Canada uses ECFMG’s International Credentials Services (EICS) to verify and transmit credentials to the MCC, and this service is separate from EPIC. If you are applying for registration to the MCC, verifying your medical credentials via EPIC is not required.

If you choose to use EPIC to verify your credentials while applying to MCC, please be sure to visit the following webpage for information on establishing a Physiciansapply.ca account and submitting a Source Verification Request (SVR) for each document, as required by MCC: https://physiciansapply.ca/services/source-verification.

If your credentials have already been source verified through EPIC, you will still need to create a Physiciansapply.ca account, submit an SVR, and send your credentials to the MCC for review.

Verification completed through EPIC can be used to complete the SVR. However, you must directly notify the MCC that your credentials have already been verified to initiate this process. Please contact service@mcc.ca to request this process. Having credentials verified through EPIC and/or sending an EPIC Report of a verified credential to the MCC does not replace the required steps of establishing a Physiciansapply.ca account and submitting your documents for review to the MCC.

If you send an EPIC Report of a verified credential to the MCC without having established a Physiciansapply.ca account, the report will be archived by MCC and no action will be taken.

About Applying to the Medical Council of Canada

I am applying to the Medical Council of Canada for registration; do I need to use EPIC?

No. Applicants to the Medical Council of Canada are not required to use EPIC.

About Using EPIC

Will I have access to my medical credentials after I apply to the Medical Council of Canada?

Yes. The credentials that you upload to EPIC remain available to you as part of your EPIC Portfolio. You can use EPIC to send copies of these credentials along with reports verifying their authenticity to organizations worldwide at any time throughout your career.

Will the Medical Council of Canada have access to my EPIC Portfolio?

No. The MCC will not have direct access to your EPIC Portfolio.
